The waves were going off! Thalia rarely breaks but when it does it is so much fun. The event was held over memorial weekend. The waves were about chest to head high and perfect conditions. The water was glassy, and the sun was out. It was a perfect day to have the Thalia St. Surf competition. This event means so much to the city of Laguna Beach. No joke the entire town comes and watches the event. This year I decided to surf in the Professional division. I would have to compete against my all time heroes like Jeff Booth, Hans Hagen, Erik “Frogger” Nelson, Jason “Wado” Watson, and Tristrum Miller. I have looked up to these guys ever since I could surf. Each heat I kept the same strategy, which was just to go for broke. The only way I was going to beat these guys was bring out some big moves and get the best waves. Oddly this strategy worked. I ended up taking 2nd loosing to my idol Hans Hagen. It was a great final and I am so stoked I got to be apart of the event.

Shayne McIntyre swung by the Rusty Surfboards factory to say hello and he was pleasantly surprised when he got handed his new 5'6" mini-Simmons inspired shape, which was completed early.  This sleek little shred sled, shaped by Hoy, has a classic twin fin set up, a real boxy tail, and it is obviously built to fly down the line.  Needless to say, Shayne was frothing at the mouth to get his new toy in the water!  Below are a few images from the trial run...
