Papercuts is the musical project of San Francisco songwriter/producer Jason Quever. Quever had been making home recordings since high school, but the first official release as Papercuts was 2004's Mockingbird (on Oaklands Antenna Farm Records). 2007's Can't Go Back (8.3 Pitchfork) and 2009's you Can Have What You Want (4 stars/MOJO) were released on Gnomonsong records, the in-house label of San Francisco's Revolver distribution. In 2010 Papercuts signed with Sub Pop records, who just released the new Papercuts album, Fading Parade. Quever is the only permanent member of Papercuts, early on playing with whoever of his friends were available. Bay area artist/filmmaker Davis Enos has been the longest standing collaborator (keys), while Frankie Koeller (bass) and Graham Hill (drums) have been regular members of the group since 2008, when the band started touring more regularly.

Jojo Roper Catches Bombs in Puerto

Rusty Surfboards team rider, Jojo Roper, really stepped off the deep end this time. You have to be pretty nuts to want to chase down waves like the one featured; Jojo proves sometimes a little bit of crazy is a good thing...
Puerto Escondido's local photographer, Edwin Morales, was there (as always) to capture Jojo on this beast of wave. If you have not noticed, Edwin is the man down at Puerto Escondido... if you see a great image of Puerto, it was probably taken by Edwin. To see more of his photography visit www.moralesedwin.com.

Josh Kerr takes top prize for Nixon event in Rio

Kerr wins first stop of Nixon’s 2011 WTA (Winner Takes All) in Rio de Janeiro
Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 21 May, 2011 : - - Encinitas -- Josh Kerr (AUS) took home the prize and claimed victory for “Biggest Air” during Nixon’s first WTA stop of the year. The Nixon WTA is a winner-takes-all event along four stops of the 2011 ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) World Tour. The WTA awards surfers for achievements during these four stops of the ASP with challenges ranging from Highest Heat Score to Heaviest Wave. Open to all surfers from trials to finals, The WTA has become a coveted and fun part of these ASP stops.
Josh’s awarding of the WTA for “Biggest Air” is even sweeter as he also proved to be the most consistent aerialist in the event, with four waves documented as potential for the award. His name was a constant whisper through the crowds and contestants as his aerial prowess kept everyone on their toes. Ultimately, it was his full rotation front-side 360 indy grab during his third heat in round four that clinched his victory.
The conditions for this stop of the WTA were a perfect fit for big airs. The punchy beach breaks of Rio proved to be the ultimate platform for some of the most progressive airs on the WCT.
As this year’s WTA Rio winner, Josh was awarded a custom Nixon Magnacon watch valued at over $10,000 USD. This one-of-a-kind watch features a custom engraved case back, an applied Brazilian flag on the dial, a Swiss movement, 60 blue sapphires set in the bezel, four decorative black diamonds on the dial, as well as 24 black diamonds on each of the indices.
