Rusty at the 2010 US Open

Rusty went all out at this year's US Open. We had a full on carnival in front of Jack's complete with a jumbo slot machine and hi striker hammer while our team signed autographs for fans. Also, the Rusty crew was cranking out custom hats from our press and handing out free swag to all who came by the booth. After the day was over we headed to 301 Beachfront for a rocking after party with the Rusty team and some special guests such as Grind TV's Erica Hosseini.

Margaret River Drug Aware Pro: Day 1 Trials Update

srug-aware-pro-front-flash-revised

Perfect conditions greeted competitors in the official Trial Event for the 2010 Drug Aware Pro held today at Surfers’ Point Margaret River.

Light offshore winds and a solid 2m swell led to consistent 4-6 foot sets. Some very competitive surfing culminated in former Margs Champ Jake Paterson winning through to the main event. The 1998 Winner will be joined by 2009 WA State Champion Dave Delroy-Carr in the field of 128 who will take to the line-up tomorrow. The two locals won their semi-finals over stand out surfers Matt Mahogan (USA) and Anthony Walsh (Lennox Head, NSW).

In further news leading in to the start of the event tomorrow, two replacement Wildcard entrants were named today. Local young gun Jay Davies has been forced to withdraw from the event due to a severe ankle injury. His Wildcard entry will now be filled by fellow Rusty team rider Jayke Sharp (Coffs Harbour, NSW). Also added to the field is local Tom Innes who will replace Mark Occhilupo who has been delayed on the east coast due to personal reasons. Occhilupo is expected to head West later in the week to fulfil commentating duties for Fuel TV at the event.

With more great conditions forecast for the week ahead the Men’s Round of 128 will commence this morning. Two Hawaiian’s at the opposite ends of their professional careers are likely to surf today, 2000 ASP World Champion Sunny Garcia and 2009 ASP Junior World Champion Kai Barger. Competitors in the Women’s Round of 60 have also been placed on standby for this afternoon.

Aussie Threat: Jayke Sharpe

21 year old Aussie threat, Jayke Sharpe, comes out with guns blazing when it counts. With a flurry of grab rail cutbacks, massive hacks, huge foam climbs, unthinkable floaters, and a repertoire of aerial maneuvers, Jayke Sharpe is not a name you want to see on your next heat sheet. Sharpe demonstrated his explosiveness in the recent Kirra Teams Challenge, where Surf Clubs across Australia competed for home town pride, by dominating his heat and taking home points for his team.
