However, every now and then he has an opportunity to sneak out for a free surf. We caught up with him as he was demoing his new custom Rusty shortboard and he let his surfing do the talking...

In the end it was Lakey Peterson with a fourth in the Women's Final and Jake Halstead with a second in the U16 Men's Final. Jake Halstead is off in New Zealand representing the United States at the ISA World Juniors.  He is only one of four surfers on the USA Team surfing in the Boys 16 and under division, surfing along side Kolohe Andino, Parker Coffin, and Trevor Thorton.  All of the surfers on the USA Team made it through their heats on day one!  Check out this video clip featured on Surfline.com...
