Rusty

This past weekend the 2010 Pier Classic finished up in Huntington Beach, CA. Rusty's Anthony Petruso surfed a great contest, scoring a 12.00 for a second place finish in his quarter final heat. Unfortunately, Petruso bowed out in the semi-final, losing to the eventual winner of the contest, Dylan Goodale.

Ultimate Boarder is a one-week competition to find the athlete who can conquer the art of surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding. Val Surf chose Rusty's Anthony Petruso and Nathan Carrol as their representatives for the team and individual contests respectively. This past weekend, the surf portion of the contest went down and Anthony scored a second place finish behind legend Rob Machado! Nathan also found his way to the winner's podium with his second place finish! Congratulations and good luck the rest of the comp!

Watch LIVE as Rusty's team made up of Anthony Petruso, Porter Hogan, and Rick Downes competes in the Katin Pro/Am. Petruso is going in the 10th heat, Downes in the 13th heat, and Hogan in the 20th heat. Also, Santa Cruz local and team rider, Omar Etcheverry is an announcer for the event.

Rusty has three athletes competing in the O'Neill Cold Water Classic Canada in Cox Bay Tofino, Vancouver Island including Anthony Pertruso, Nate Yeomans, and Kevin Sullivan. All three advanced in the first round and check out videos above for highlights. Even in the tough Day 1 conditions Kevin managed to put up a 16.17 out of 20, one of the highest scores of the day! Both Anthony and Nate are on through to Round 3 and Kevin's Round 2 heat is running later today. Follow the results live by clicking here!

Malibu legends gathered to compete for the benefit of Lyon Herron, a young surfer battling Gardner’s Syndrome. Though the waves were small, they gave surfers a fun swell to ride. The third event in the Rusty/Sun Diego Surf Series got underway on Saturday at Pacific Beach Drive and though the surf was not as epic as the last event the level of talent was still through the roof! The waves were a bit on the inconsistent side ranging from waist to head high with fair conditions. The heat winners tended to be the surfers who picked off the bigger waves in contrast to the last event which had an abundance of long lines and air sections every heat - evening out the playing field.  Competitors tore apart any pulse that rippled through the contest zone offering spectators an impressive display of beach break annihilation...

Congratulations to Rusty team riders Anthony Petruso, Jake Halstead, and Kevin Schulz for holding it down in the final rounds. Petruso took home 3rd in the Pro/Am division, Schulz snagged a 1st place finish in the Grom Division, and last event's ring leader, Halstead, took home another 1st in the Juniors Division!

Event #1 of the 2009 Rusty/Sun Diego Summer Surf Series presented by Monster Energy was held Sunday, July 12 at Ocean Beach Pier in 2 foot rippable surf. The Rusty Boardhouse showed up with 50 Rusty demo boards and served up some grilled bbq for the competitors.
